Newfoundland and Labrador: Hayward, Alexandra
I am passionate about working towards a world where caring for each other and the living planet are our top priorities. Born and raised on the Beothuk and Mi’kmaq lands here, I am now studying biology (ecology and conservation) and geography at Memorial University of Newfoundland. I’ve been recognized as the inaugural recipient of Conservation Corps NL’s Adele Poynter Memorial Award for my contributions to the environmental and cultural resources of this province through my work and volunteerism.
A large part of this contribution is demonstrated through my involvement with a nationwide grassroots movement for environmental rights in Canada sparked by David Suzuki. I serve as a Regional Blue Dot Movement Ambassador and work with my MP to engage him in this movement. In the past I have helped lead the movement in Mount Pearl which resulted in a municipal declaration for the right to a healthy environment.
I’m also the Undergraduate Representative on the NL chapter of the Wildlife Society. This year I have become more involved with the Green Party and I was fortunate to speak with Elizabeth May when she visited NL a few weeks ago. I am in the early stages of organizing a Green Party campus club and am eager to increase this province’s involvement with the Greens! I am respectfully asking for your vote and thanking you in advance.
